How SIG is building a healthier, more connected workplace through Fiscfree and Roetz Bikes
As a dynamic, tech-driven consultancy based in Amsterdam, SIG is on the move every day — between the office, clients, train stations and events. To make those trips easier and more enjoyable, SIG introduced a shared e-bike fleet from Roetz Life, arranged through Fiscfree. Ellen Versteeg, Office Culture Support at SIG, shares how the initiative came together, why Roetz was the natural fit, and what it means for the team.

What mobility challenge was SIG looking to solve for its employees?
"As an international company based in Amsterdam, mobility is part of daily life. Our colleagues travel between the office, clients, train stations, events, and meetings across the city.
At the same time, we wanted to make it easier and more enjoyable for employees to move around during the day. Amsterdam is a city designed for cycling, so creating easy access to bikes felt like a natural fit.
We also saw an opportunity to make the journey between our parking facilities and the office more convenient. What started as a practical mobility question quickly evolved into a broader employee experience initiative."
Why was now the right time for SIG to invest in a shared e-bike fleet?
"At SIG, we continuously look for ways to improve the employee experience. Our people are our greatest asset, and we believe that investing in wellbeing, flexibility and convenience contributes directly to a positive workplace culture.
The shared bikes offer colleagues a healthy, sustainable and enjoyable alternative for short trips. Whether it's a ride to a client, a quick visit to an event, or simply getting to the station, the bikes provide an extra level of freedom throughout the workday.
And let's be honest — cycling through Amsterdam on a sunny day is a benefit in itself."
The project was initiated through Fiscfree. How did that help make the process simple and financially attractive?
"One of the biggest advantages was how straightforward the process was.
Fiscfree helped us understand the possibilities, financial implications and practical setup without creating additional administrative complexity. That made it much easier to move from idea to implementation.
For HR and Office Management, simplicity is key. We want to spend our time creating great experiences for employees, not navigating unnecessary bureaucracy.
What advantages does this lease construction offer compared to traditional mobility solutions?
"For us, it's about flexibility and efficiency.
Many trips within Amsterdam are simply faster by bike than by car or public transport. The bikes are available whenever colleagues need them, without complicated booking procedures or additional costs per trip.
From an organisational perspective, it provides a scalable mobility solution that supports both sustainability goals and employee wellbeing while remaining cost-effective."

Why did SIG ultimately choose the Roetz Life e-bikes?
"There are many bikes available, but Roetz stood out because of the combination of quality, sustainability and local impact.
We particularly appreciated the circular approach and the fact that the bikes are built in Amsterdam. As a company that values innovation and continuous improvement, we liked the idea of choosing a solution that is designed with long-term sustainability in mind.
The bikes also look great, which certainly doesn't hurt."
The bikes feature custom SIG branding. How important was that visibility?
"The branding was actually an important part of the project.
The bikes are not just a mobility solution; they are an extension of our office culture. Having the SIG logo on the bikes creates visibility, recognisability and a sense of pride among employees.
It's always nice to see colleagues cycling through the city on a bike that is clearly part of the SIG family."

How has the team responded to the bikes and the digital sharing technology?
"Our consultants and engineers generally appreciate solutions that are intuitive and practical.
The response has been very positive because the process is simple: reserve, unlock and ride. There are no unnecessary steps or complications.
When technology works seamlessly, people tend to adopt it quickly, and that's exactly what we're seeing."
Are employees actually using the bikes?
"Yes, and that's perhaps the best measure of success.
The bikes are being used for trips to clients, events, train stations and even simply moving between locations during the day.
Once colleagues realise how convenient it is to have a bike available directly outside the office, the barrier disappears very quickly. It becomes part of the daily routine."
Does the social and circular mission behind Roetz contribute to SIG's sustainability ambitions?
"Absolutely.
Sustainability is not achieved through one large initiative; it's the result of many thoughtful decisions. Choosing a circular product from a company with a strong social mission aligns well with how we approach responsible business.
It allows us to support sustainable mobility while partnering with an organisation that creates positive impact beyond the product itself."
What advice would you give to other HR professionals or Office Managers considering a similar initiative?
"Don't overcomplicate it.
A shared bike programme is one of those initiatives that delivers value in multiple areas at the same time. It supports wellbeing, sustainability, flexibility, employer branding and workplace culture.
Start small if needed, learn from the experience and build from there.
For us, the bikes have become much more than a transportation solution. They are another way of helping colleagues connect, move, explore the city and enjoy being part of the SIG community.
And in a city like Amsterdam, that's a pretty powerful thing."
